Dos Bocas

Dos Bocas, a Mexican-Cajun fusion restaurant in Downtown Atlanta, needed a bold, dynamic brand identity that reflected both cultures equally. The goal was to create a visual balance between the vibrant, marquee-lit aesthetic of New Orleans and the rich, colorful iconography of Tex-Mex culture.

Key Points

Finding the right fusion of two distinct styles without one overpowering the other.

Crafting a compelling first impression for a brand-new restaurant.

Executing my first full branding project as the sole designer.

Approach & Process

I worked closely with Dos Bocas' Marketing Director to define the brand’s vision, gathering inspiration from fusion restaurants, cultural motifs, and regional aesthetics. I developed a mood board to align our creative direction, which we referenced throughout the project.

The logo was the foundation. I explored various concepts before presenting three final options. The chosen design, a stacked, text-based logo with marquee-inspired dots and lines, visually captured the fusion concept. The typography drew from Mexican lucha libre posters, while the sandy orange and brown palette was inspired by landscapes from the founders’ road trip that sparked the restaurant’s concept.

Once the logo and color palette were finalized, I developed brand variations for versatility across different mediums. The branding extended to menu design, incorporating playful typography and small illustrations to maintain the energetic, dynamic feel of the restaurant. I also collaborated with the interior designer to ensure the visual identity aligned with the space’s atmosphere.

Outcome & Impact

Successfully established a distinct, recognizable brand that balances both cultural influences.

The branding influenced aspects of the restaurant’s interior design, reinforcing a cohesive experience.

The fun, lively aesthetic resonates with the restaurant’s personality, making it a standout in Atlanta’s food scene.
